A retreat for a visual artist in Stratham, NH.
The Farm Studio is a place where an artist, who is primarily focused on digital work, can relax, breathe, and separate herself from the distractions of daily life. Designed to accommodate the artist's fluctuating spurts of creativity, the studio can function as a secluded office for a day, or a comfortable getaway for longer stretches.
The artist wanted a studio where she could also stay for days or weeks at a time when working on particularly engaging projects. On the ground floor, the Farm Studio includes a kitchen that doubles as a print/plot room, and a full bathroom that doubles as a dark room (for analog photography).
The second floor work studio includes a large desk and work table, a lounge area, storage for her work, and a bed for naps and late nights, all directed towards a south-facing wall of windows.
The kitchen doubles as a print/plot room. The plotter, printers, and supplies are contained within the blue cabinets when not in use.
The Farm Studio's site, on the crest of a small hill, provides commanding views over the bucolic surroundings.
The lounge area serves as a place to relax, read, think, or stare out the window. Occasionally, it also serves as a second nap area.
The artist wanted an outward-oriented studio, with views over the countryside. Within the second floor studio, all of the various elements are oriented towards the wall of windows.
